The film received mixed reviews from critics who praised the performances of the lead actors, especially Ajay Devgan and Ayesha Jhulka, but criticized the clichÃd and predictable plot. The film was also compared unfavorably to Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), another film with a similar theme of star-crossed lovers. Some of the critics' opinions are as follows:
Silvan Desouza from IMDb gave the film 3 out of 10 stars and wrote, \"Ajay just fresh after PHOOL AUR KAANTE(1991) and JIGAR(92) successes got to face many failures from 1993 till DILWALE(1994) which was a hit. In 1993 he had many flops like PLATFORM, DIVYASHAKTI SANGRAM is one of those films. Though not a complete bad film, it's an average film. The film is a story of enimity between 2 fathers Danny and Amrish Puri somewhat similar to QSQT but here the main story is also the love triangle between Karisma, Ajay and Ayesha Jhulka in that way the story is different from QSQT. The film belongs to the 90's and we have the standard fights, comedy, college scenes and songs. But the rivalry is well handled and the film though clichÃd and formulaic is well handled in parts though it could be better.\"[^1^]
Sumeet Nadkarni from IMDb gave the film 6 out of 10 stars and wrote, \"After the super success of his musical love triangle Saajan (1991), director Lawrence D'Souza launched his own production company with Sangram. The plot was yet another love triangle with 'Do khandaano ki puraani dushmani' wala angle thrown in.'Sheheri babu' Ajay Devgn falls in love with the 'pahaadi ladki' Ayesha Jhulka while his college mate Karisma Kapoor has lost her heart to him. Ajay and Karisma's pappas are besties turned sworn enemies akin to Subhash Ghai's Saudagar (1991) and Saawan Kumar Tak's Sanam Bewafa (1991). It was a movie which gave tremendous scope for my favourite Ayesha Jhulka to perform and the lady didn't disappoint one bit. Being her huge fan, one viewing wasn't enough and so, I went for my second theatrical watch at my nearby Paradise Cinema, Mahim in its fifth week.\"[^1^]
Rotten Tomatoes did not have any critic reviews for the film but had an audience score of 50% based on 6 ratings.[^2^]
